The dry season (June to October) offers the best wildlife viewing. Roads are passable, and animals gather at water sources, making them easier to spot.
Absolutely! This itinerary is ideal for first-time safari-goers or families. You’ll have comfortable lodging, short transfer times, and varied activities like boat rides and easy hikes.
Expect elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, wildebeests, crocodiles, hippos, and over 300 bird species. Ruaha and Selous are also strongholds for wild dogs and rare antelopes.
Only Day 5 involves moderate hiking. All other days are mostly game drives with minimal walking, suitable for most travelers.

You’ll be picked up from Dar es Salaam International Airport or your hotel and driven to Selous Game Reserve (approx. 3–4 hours). Upon arrival, enjoy a relaxing boat safari on the Rufiji River, where you can spot crocodiles, hippos, and waterbirds in their natural habitat.
Overnight: Selous Explorers Camp
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Spend a full day exploring Selous Game Reserve, Africa’s largest protected wildlife area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Choose between a private guided game drive or an optional walking safari with a local ranger. Selous is home to elephants, lions, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, and over 350 bird species.
Enjoy the untouched wilderness of open plains, miombo woodlands, and riverside ecosystems.
Overnight: Selous Explorers Camp

After breakfast, depart for Mikumi National Park (approx. 4–5 hours). Often referred to as the “mini Serengeti”, Mikumi is famous for its wide open savannahs and reliable wildlife viewing.
After lunch en route, check in and head straight out for an afternoon game drive in search of lions, giraffes, elands, and zebras.
Overnight: Camp Bastian Mikumi
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Explore Mikumi National Park on a full-day safari adventure. Spot elephants, buffalo, hippos, wildebeest, and possibly the elusive African wild dog. Birdwatchers will enjoy sightings of bee-eaters, lilac-breasted rollers, and crowned cranes.
The Mkata floodplain, a hotspot for wildlife, offers fantastic photo opportunities.
Overnight: Camp Bastian Mikumi
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, drive to nearby Udzungwa Mountains National Park, a biodiversity hotspot rich in rainforests, waterfalls, and endemic species.
Embark on a guided hike to Sanje Waterfalls, a stunning 180-meter cascade where you can swim in natural pools and enjoy views over the Kilombero Valley. Look for rare primates like the Sanje mangabey and Iringa red colobus along the trail.
Overnight: Camp Bastian Mikumi
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Enjoy a final morning game drive in Mikumi after an early breakfast. Afterward, begin your journey back to Dar es Salaam (approx. 5–6 hours). A packed lunch will be provided for the road.
