DAY 1

Arrival – Kilimanjaro International Airport → Moshi

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, your driver will greet you and transfer you to Chanya Lodge in Moshi. Relax or explore town. In the evening, meet your head guide for a trek briefing and gear check.

DAY 2

: Moshi → Londorossi Gate (2,250 m) → Big Tree Camp (2,780 m)

Trek Time: 2–3 hours
Altitude Gain: ~530 m

After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. Continue off-road through forest tracks to the trailhead. Begin a short but scenic hike through lush rainforest to reach Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa).

DAY 3

Big Tree Camp → Shira Camp 1 (3,500 m)

Trek Time: 4–5 hours
Altitude Gain: ~720 m

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the heath zone. You’ll trek across rolling ridges with views of giant Erica and Lobelia plants. Arrive at Shira Camp 1 on the edge of the expansive Shira Plateau.

DAY 4

Shira Camp 1 → Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m)

Trek Time: 4–5 hours
Altitude Gain: ~400 m

Continue across the Shira Plateau, passing volcanic features and possibly spotting Mt. Meru in the distance. Encounter giant senecios before reaching Shira Camp 2, a key acclimatization stop.

7 Days Shira Route

DAY 5

Shira Camp 2 → Lava Tower (4,640 m) → Barranco Camp (3,960 m)

Trek Time: 6–7 hours
Net Altitude Gain: +60 m (climb high, sleep low)

Climb to Lava Tower for critical altitude exposure, then descend into the lush Barranco Valley, known for its dramatic cliffs and towering vegetation. Overnight at Barranco Camp, considered one of the most beautiful on the mountain.

7 Days Shira Route

DAY 6

Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp (4,035 m)

Trek Time: 3–4 hours
Altitude Gain: ~75 m

Scale the iconic Barranco Wall—a fun, non-technical climb with sweeping views. Traverse glacial ridges to reach Karanga Camp, a scenic spot to rest before the final summit approach.

DAY 7

Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp (4,640 m)

Trek Time: 3–4 hours
Altitude Gain: ~600 m
Cross barren afro-alpine desert to reach Barafu Camp, your launch point for summit night. Eat early and rest, as your summit push begins just after midnight.

DAY 8

Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) → Mweka Camp (3,080 m)

Summit Time: 6–8 hours
Descent Time: 6 hours
Total Distance: 18+ km

Begin your summit attempt around midnight, reaching Stella Point at sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa. Celebrate briefly, then descend to Barafu for rest, followed by a trek to Mweka Camp.

DAY 9

Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate (1,630 m) → Moshi

Trek Time: 2–3 hours
Altitude Loss: ~1,450 m

Descend through tropical rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your official summit certificate. Your driver will transfer you back to Chanya Lodge in Moshi for a hot shower and celebration dinner.

Departure – Moshi to Kilimanjaro Airport
